Navel Gazing for 7 Business Startups to Consider

So I have been doing some navel-gazing, and I have come up with what I think might have more upside than most. They are not in any order of priority, just 7 business startups to consider.

My 7 Business Startups to Consider

woman and a dogPet sitting can be a great startup business with other opportunities built in.

1 of 7 Business Startups to Consider
Pet Sitting

More pets were bought because of the COVID-19 pandemic than ever in the history of the world. Many worked from home and it seemed a good idea to have a pet in the house - the home office.

The pandemic is behind us and we have returned to the office, at least for the majority of a week. The pet is neglected.

About 70% of US families now have a pet, and I suspect this is about the same in most western countries.

This business requires nothing more than an internet connection and a laptop and your time. I like businesses with not too many moving parts.

Pet sitting is a good small-business side hustle idea.

There is another benefit that presents itself with the pet-sitting business.

You take your laptop and work while you spend time pet-sitting. Opportunities to work on other income streams like….Resume writing.

woman with computer and a dog Writing resumes whilst pet sitting. Not a bad idea!!! A double business startup. Time efficient.

Resume Writing

With the great resignation movement still happening all over the world, it is a great business startup opportunity to write resumes.

People are always applying for jobs for a multitude of reasons. Most job seekers need a well-written resume.

You don’t need any special schooling.  Google good resumes and stamp your own style on them. You can easily get a good professional-looking resume out the door in very little time.

You could make templates and save more time. Yes, you need to market yourself, but that is part of the business.

Launching a Newsletter

newsletterStart a business writing newsletters. Maybe for time-poor organizations. think about it.

Consider launching a newsletter as another income stream you could do whilst pet-sitting.

If the idea of building a robust list of subscribers and selling space to advertisers and partners appeals, then you could give this consideration.

Create an email newsletter. Over 90% of Americans subscribe to an email newsletter. This means if you can get their attention, you could build a substantial following and monetize it.

Come up with an evergreen topic you have a passion for and can write about it at length. Creating a mailing list is the backbone of all great online businesses.

You could be the voice of the topic and the 'go-to' for information about your topic. You could do podcasts, which lead into the next one of the 7 business startups to consider. Host a podcast.

Eh, it’s great to have you read this far.

I’d like to send more information about this and other topics in my monthly newsletter.

Host a podcast

Mic and computerPodcasting is a growth industry. Get on board. Consider this for a side hustle or startup.

Podcasts have become hugely popular not only in the US but all over the world. I listen to a podcast every morning doing my morning exercise.

You would need some understanding of audio editing. This would be available on YouTube I’m sure. I have researched this and there are online course for beginners.

Over time, your podcast will build a following of subscribers and followers of the expert information of your passion.

You never know where this one might lead you. Guest speaking, company consulting, conference speaker. Who knows? You will never never know if you never never go.

Stick with your unique niche - your passion - and go get ‘em.

Gardening and Lawn Care Servicing

lawn mowerAlways a good startup. More so now with homeowners time poor.

On a more practical, get down and get dirty - type of business, what about gardening and lawn care servicing?

With the world getting busier and time-poor, it is another  opportunity to start your business or just a side hustle doing lawns.

Get a website to market it or start with a simple flyer you could distribute in your ‘hood. This takes little or nothing to market. Yes, there will be plant and material capital. This is a tax-deductible item in most countries.

Strike a price point and you are off and running, or should I say mowing. The interesting thing about this type of business, if you go far and beyond the terms of reference you will get referrals. Referrals are gold.

It won’t be long before you can organise and outsource staff to do the heavy lifting and you are then being a businessperson and working on the business and not in the business. Makes sense?

Personal trainer

personal trainerIf you are a fitness fanatic then this startup might be for you. Great opportunities with health and well-being booming.

This one has to be a passion thing. Personal trainer. Before you pass over this, understand the world as it is. Totally unfit.

Interest in health and well-being is at an all-time high. Again, people are time-poor.

Having a personal trainer is the discussion around the dining room table.

Now there are plenty of personal trainers to choose from. You need to be different. This is the planning and research time.

Get this right.

Be prepared to add and delete.

If you can come up with a point of difference, then you are on the right track.

It could be a winner.

Just saying.

Give it some thought. If fitness is your thing, this opportunity could be your business.

Home care services

home care and seniorsHome caring seniors is only going to get bigger. This is a gangbuster. If working with senior citizens is something you like doing this startup is a bolter.

I like this one. I have been thinking about this issue for some time. I believe the time has come for this opportunity to take off.

I have included it in the 7 business startups to consider because, my friends, we are an aging population.

With the degree of medical advancements and health and fitness levels improving exponentially, this is going to be a growth industry.

A background in aged care can help, but being a carer has different requirements in different countries. Check out what yours are and make sure you comply.

If you can’t, it might be a genuine opportunity to take a course and get qualified while you are pet-sitting.

This business is going to boom.

I see many great businesses starting up and growing fast with this baby.

Fact, seniors require in-home care. Demand is only going to grow.

According to the Population Reference Bureau, between 2020 and 2060, the 85-and-over population is projected to triple from 6.7 million to 19 million.

The global number of centenarians has already reached nearly 600,000. Many will need care and help, often in their own homes.

You don’t need a background in healthcare to help seniors. It’s like the airtasker but more specialized.

You can start a successful business without too much trouble. Again, you will need to have some type of marketing strategy.

Seniors need help with all kinds of tasks and errands like repairs, garden care, and other projects around the house. With experience, this business could skyrocket.

Your startup business to help seniors could develop into offshoots and help your senior customers transition from their homes to age care or assisted living facilities.

You could furthermore create a specialist furniture removal service and storage units and keepsake photos to digital storage. Just think about it the opportunities are endless.

Get staff to do the tasks and work on the business, not in the business.

The senior home care business has been around for a while, but it is my prediction it is about to boom. Therefore, it makes it into my 7 business startups to consider.

Summary

There are many others you just need to put your thinking cap on and observe what is happening. Plan it out and research the moving parts.

Work within your unique ability and always be thinking ahead about existing issues and how you can solve them. Will you pass the business on to the next generation or sell it and move on to new frontiers?

You will do nothing unless you do something. Get off your ass and make a difference.

Experience isn't the best teacher, experience is the only teacher.
